Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2013)
The Genre of this Film is made very apparent by the trailer and it is clearly of the 'Slasher' sub-genre.
The trailer also implies a high budget and many special effects within the film
The target audience of this film would be teenagers (relatable to the characters in the plot.) and they would be interested in watching this film as the trailer highlights aspects and conventions of the genre which the fans love to see such as the killer with his iconic weapon and the stupid teenagers who get killed in gory manners.
The trailer shows a brief outline of the plot which shows that all is well as they visit one of the teenagers grandmothers house and are all having a great time but there is a clear point in the trailer where the pace changes and the entry of a certain room in a house signifies the start of unfortunate events to come and the introduction of the antagonist; it is at this point where the 'mood' of the trailer and story goes from light and happy to very dark, evil and sinister.
The trailer utilises many technical codes in order to create excitement, suspense and tension, sound is used to build up a pace and feel of tension as the killer is clearly becoming more and more of a threat to the main character and the plot leads up to a final showdown. It uses a series of short takes with fades in and fades out in synchronisation with a pulsing soundtrack to build up the excitement for the audience. This trailer is very much driven by sound.
